WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT THE FINISHED PAINTING TO LOOK LIKE?

Commissions can be as specific in ideas or as vague as the client chooses. Always remember that when it comes down to it, I (as the artist) can only paint how I paint. You wouldn’t ask me to do a photo realism painting because that isn’t what I do. Make sure you go through my gallery and really look at my style. Decide if you’re okay with the colors I use, the big brushstrokes, the drips and splatters, etc. This painting will not mirror what you have in your imagination. How could it? When it’s my imagination that is creating it. It will, however, have a very close resemblance to any images you provide, and the energy in which you would like the subject matter to convey.

WHAT TYPE OF INFORMATION DO I NEED TO GIVE BEFORE WE START THE COMMISSION PROCESS?

SIZE: You need to decide on the size of the painting you would like. I prefer not to paint anything smaller than a 16x20 or 18x24 (there are exceptions). Depending on what you would like included in the painting, I may recommend a minimum size. Bigger is always better though! My style really lends itself to a larger painting surface, but I will always try to accommodate your preferences.

SUBJECT MATTER: Sky is the limit!! I have painted everything from dogs, horses, cars, sports teams logos, wildlife, still life, landscapes, flowers, and of course people and figurative!!

When I’m painting a person that I don’t know I will need a few different images so that I can get the feel of their features. The clearer the images the better but I have worked from old blurry photos, so nothing is impossible. I will always ask for as many pictures as you have of the person, and I will choose the one I feel will make for the best composition and overall great painting. We will find one together, that we’re both happy with.

I’m open to painting almost any subject matter, as I love a challenge! (there are always exceptions though)

COLOR: This is a tricky one because as the painting progresses I will intuitively add colors. Having said that, you can choose one dominant color or color palette you would like me to stick to. (Example: warm earth tones or bright gem tones). You may also choose one color you would like to be excluded. This tends to be the color red for a lot of people, and as I tend to use a lot of red in my work, please let me know ahead of time if this would bother you.

TIMELINE: As I’ve said before, nothing is impossible! But I’m hoping that if this is a gift for someone you have thought about it earlier than the night before their birthday, lol. The night before, would in fact, be impossible. As a rule, I prefer one month to get any commission finished, but it all depends on my schedule and if I have other commissions already in the works, or am getting ready for an upcoming art show. The more time I have the better of course. If you order a commission you must be okay with receiving it as soon as I’m finished, as I do not have the room to store any paintings.

COST & PAYMENTS: There is no set price for commissions. It is not an exact formula. It depends on the individual commission requests. For example, if one painting has 5 people in it, it will be more costly that a painting the same size that only has one person it it. The subject matter, detail requirements, size, timeline, etc all come into factoring the cost.

I require 50% of the cost as deposit before I start any commission. The second and final payment is required upon completion before I ship it to you, or before I deliver it, if you are local. If the painting needs to be shipped, the shipping cost will be included in the price of the painting. Shipping requirements MUST be discussed prior to me giving you a quote.

WHO SUPPLIES THE CLOTHING IF I WANT A FASHION ART PIECE? You supply any garment you would like painted! I’m not in the clothing business, lol. Although, fun fact, when I was younger I wanted to be a fashion designer.

I can paint on almost any type of fabric, the heavier the better though. T-shirts, leather, denim are all okay!
